Anonymous asked: real talk bro dont compare your white crust punk issues to important issues man thats not cool

The line you’re referring to in my friends little message about being harassed, stalked and threatened on a regular basis is “And the people that does all this, are also people who participate in demonstrations against homophobic hate crimes, racism and stuff like that.”
They aren’t comparing their personal issues to homophobia or racism, they are stating that some of the people who attack and bully them are also equal-rights activists who pretend to be open minded but go out of their way to tell her that she should kill herself.

God dammit I'm lonely
Me when considering hanging out with someone :
yea but are they queer, vegan, sober, atheist, anarchists, into folk punk and power violence and grindcore? Do they play magic? What about piercings and dyed hair? Do they like adventuring? WHAT IS THEIR ANALYSIS OF GENDER AND CLASS LIKE, WHAT IF WE FIGHT ABOUT INTERSECTIONALITY SOME DAY!? What will I do!?

jesus christ there’s a post that just showed up on my dash twice about how punks are so persecuted and comparing all this imaginary ~*~punksecution~*~ to homophobia and racism

nope

i hate punk culture and i want to smash things

(unfortunately the word “punksecution” was not used in the post.  i feel strongly that this would have improved it.)

Yo, that was my friends post about her mental trauma being constantly harassed by creeps and assholes online who pick her apart, even still it was more about how people are judgmental assholes and pretend to be open minded (when it comes to convenient topics).

So you can be proud of being black, hispanic, or asian, but you can’t be proud to be white? Wtf is wrong with society?

white people are behind the worst genocides in history what your sus ass got to be proud of? the invention of graham crackers?

idk pretty sure we invented toilets or something

bitch we invented the soap to clean your filthy asses dont talk shit

Jessusssssssssss

Actually, white people invented the following;

Geography
Telescope
Microscope
Automobile
Television
Electricity
Aircrafts
Computers
The Piano
Electric Engineering
Telephone
Theory of Evolution
The Wormhole
First one’s in Space
First one’s on the Moon
Banks/Banking
The theory of Natural Selection
Theatre
Pencil
The Jet Engine
The discovery of DNA
The discovery of the Atom
The discovery of Cells
The Camera
US Constitution
Democracy
Republic

And yes, a white person did happen to invent the graham cracker.

If you want to cling to every invention that white people are responsible for throughout history as if it’s some sort of accomplishment of your own, then you should also accept responsibility for all the disgusting things that white people have done, correct? You can’t just claim the things that make you look good and disregard the history that makes you look bad. Take it all or leave it all.

Geography- The oldest known world maps date back to Islam in the 9th Century B.C.

Automobile- automobiles were base on chariots created by the Indo-Iranians.

Electricity- Nobody invented electricity, pendejo estupido. Electricity is a natural phenomena.

Computers- Computers were based on the abacus, created by the ancient Sumerians.

The Piano- The piano is based on string instruments created in ancient Mesopotamia.

The Wormhole- Einstein discovered this, and given that Einstein was a dedicate member of the NAACP and called racism America’s “worst disease”, I’m sure that he would not appreciate you using his discoveries to promote white supremacy.

Theatre- The earliest recorded theatrical event dates back to 2000 BCE with the “passion plays” of Ancient Egypt.

The Jet Engine- This is based on rockets invented by the Chinese in the 13th Century

The Discovery of the Atom- Atomism dates back to India during the 6th Century BCE

The Camera- Photographic cameras were a development of the Camera Obscura, a device dating back to the ancient Chinese.

The U.S. Constitution- The earliest known code of law dates back to the ancient Mesopotamians. The American Constitution is based on the Iroquois “Great Code of Peace”. And given that the original U.S. Constitution was used to enslave and murder thousands of people, maybe you shouldn’t be so proud of it.

Democracy- Based on the Sanghas of India during the 6th Century BCE

Republics- See above.

Nice try, white person. Practically everything you guys invented comes from PoC

Awww, but hey look they still get the graham cracker.

Mogli & The Dirty Sisters @ The Gathering

Harbour Water Fest 4

what the fuck is this shit? nice fucking facepaint? cool.

Okay I don’t know if these people have ANY connection to indigenous people/land or this is a bunch of racist fucking colonial bullshit settler manifestation of usurpation but I know this: harbourwater is very white, and it is in a city that is not very white but that is very segregated, so I am not sure how many Ind. peeps who are down with decolonization are going to burn sage and wear face paint for that crowd. Ugh!!!!!!!

Did they talk about why they were doing this?
CONTEXT! Ugh, kinda weirded out at the picture not having anything other than where it was taken.

It would be great if we could get more of a dialogue going about this from those involved and in attendance of this show. For those reading this who don’t know me in person please feel comfortable contacting me over tumblr. For those that know me in person I would be very willing to talk in person. We need to figure out what’s going on, why and how these aesthetics//practices can (do) harm people and perpetuate White Supremacy and Colonialism.

I was at this show, and had a lot of feels (in general at Harbour Water -‘course- but especially there). Way into having these talks (in person?) soon. Way important and fuckin’ overdue (always).

I admit my ignorance towardz basicly any of their ( the musicians ) background and intentions, all I know is that they were dressed up, painted as animals. Mostly deers. But they do have feathers and native looking prints/shirts.. It’s ok to make everything themed of animals and dress up like deers (i think?) but i feel uncomfortable with most of their merch…( even if i did try to defend their intentions before like an idiot, sorry ). Also the burning of the sage wtf. All they said was that we smelled like punx and the sage would help. Thanks but no thank you.

Idk I guess I’m just fucking bored of seeing my friends being all mythical, animal spirit and crust punk when we’re still mostly all white city punks.

I hope that people who are friends of those directly involved are having conversations with each other about this. It’s one thing to reblog to spread awareness but not a whole lot of understanding, change and growth can result right? Right. Cool, let’s do this duders! Acknowledgements and Apologies?

I’m hella white & don’t know how to respond to this intelligently. what I do know is that these kids just recorded an entire album about animals called “feral feelings”. here’s what mogli wrote in the insert booklet:

Every song is about a creature or beast and to them I give this and even more to the ones not mentioned in this album. I relate to every one, every creature/beast I can for a second and make up maybe an idea of how they feel. It is said we cannot begin to understand how they feel differently but I think that is false and within each of us lies the ability to read animals. The way they feel is displayed in front of us, all we gotta do is open up. They have so much to teach us, and it is important to embrace each honorable visit and respect their boundaries. I also wrote about the first nations and their beliefs and a bit on their history. I believe that their beliefs could actually save this world, but that’s just me. - Mogli”

I kind of love this kid & we’ve often talked about how much better animals are than humans. snail party used to dress up like animals & paint our faces & I think the dirty sisters is an evolution of that aesthetic combined with bubzee’s art.
folks could maybe get in touch with the dirty sisters through facebook? mogli doesn’t have tumblr & I don’t think the other two folks do either.

Hey, I’m bringing this back here for the sake of the commentary.

First of all, I want to apologize for posting this without a greater context. It’s not something I tend to do on this (my photo) blog, but I see now that it’s resulted in a lot of people feeling confused and hurt and angry. I’m sorry.

Secondly, I had no idea that Mogli had written that in the liner notes, and frankly it disgusts me. While wearing a deer costumer and painting a bird on your face may not in itself be inherently appropriative or racist, when you’re coming at it from that perspective it is hella fucked up. You can’t lump all the hundreds of distinct first nations tribes together and sum up “their beliefs”, and they aren’t [white people’s] to write about. Living in the woods and buying sage bundles from a local indigenous person does not give you these liberties, but your white privilege certainly makes it easier for you to go about unchecked.

If there’s anything I can do to help work through this situation, and at least help alleviate some of the discomfort I’ve caused by posting these photos then please either hit me up on here, or let’s talk about it in person if you know me!

I think it’s very dangerous & harmful for white people to take on native customs & beliefs as their own. whenever you’re in a position of privilege it’s important to recognize how easy & comfortable it can be for you to experiment with certain aesthetics, ideas, beliefs in a safe way. it isn’t always the same for native folks & other people who are marginalized or oppressed. this is for sure fucked up & terrible.
I do think though that the face paint, costumes & animal songs are coming from a sincere place & love for nature & the wild. I think these kids have a lot of heart, but also privilege… & that needs to be talked about, so I’m glad that’s what folks are doing.
is it possible as a white person to appreciate other cultures/people without it being fucked & appropriative? I truthfully don’t know. I’m in a constant state of unlearning & learning & I think these kids probably are too. regardless intention does not matter when it hurts & erases people.

I don’t have facebook but from a simple google search here is the dirty sisters’ page if any of you who might care for these folks (or not) want to talk to them.

https://www.facebook.com/mogliandthedirtysisters

they could probably shed more light on intentions regarding their music & performances than me.
(maybe it’s wrong of me to write this. I’m sorry. I just care for mogli & know how much she just wants the world to not be a load of shit).

I don’t care about intentions. It is NOT OKAY and it doesn’t matter how much you “love them” an how “great this kid is” because it isn’t ok what they did. And dialogue? Okay, yeah I agree. Go talk to your friends, about how colonialism is about usurpation, and how every day we re-embody it and the ONLY way to try to be better is…trying to be better, acknowledging the fucking up and moving forward with the acknowledgement. Not moving on, because that is what capitalism wants us to do. To “get over it”.

It really upsets me when people say things “they are my friend” “i know they wouldn’t want to cause harm” Remember racism is a form of abuse, of mind-rape. What would you say to someone who says this about one of your good friends, if someone confesses to you they assaulted them, raped them? Would you get away with writing off the calling out because you just can’t believe they had bad intentions?

We live in rape culture like we live in racism. So of course we’re going to fuck up, but we gotta stop the bullshit, and start the conversation, the constructive critique.

And white punks need to stop hiding behind “community” and PC” and “DIY” and begin rolling with what it really means to create a better fucking world not just for you and your friends, but for every.single.one.of.us.

goddamnit.

“Go talk to your friends, about how colonialism is about usurpation, and how every day we re-embody it and the ONLY way to try to be better is…trying to be better, acknowledging the fucking up and moving forward with the acknowledgement. Not moving on, because that is what capitalism wants us to do. To “get over it”.”

THIS RIGHT HERE!

I dont want to hear about how great or how much you love these kids, followed by a disclaimer about how you’re not legitimizing their actions (you still are!!). These folks being great people does exempt them from the fact that they are white kids who embody white-supremacy and are settlers on this land in where the colonization of indigenous people still happens to this day. You want to embrace indigenous cultures, please start by acknowledging and checking yourself as a settler….no matter nice you are/love animals/hate this fucked up world.

“And white punks need to stop hiding behind “community” and PC” and “DIY” and begin rolling with what it really means to create a better fucking world not just for you and your friends, but for every.single.one.of.us.”

Yes! as much fun as folks have at the fest (I have been to and played at HWF), these are still spaces that are not safe for many black, indigenous, and POC folks. Im not saying that this only happens there but we need to talk to each other about how we can make these space less fucked-up and more inclusive while continuously checking ourselves.

everything you folks are writing I am taking seriously. I’m sorry for letting my personal relations get in the way of or dilute this issue. I totally recognize that I am white & a settler & can be horrible without trying. my intentions don’t mean shit right now.
very fucking sorry, & please continue to write me if you want to.
I have super respect for all the folks involved in this here thread, honestly…

This is a really important and intense conversation that I just want my followers to read, as someone who is removed from the situation obviously my views are irrelevant but I think everyone should learn a lesson from this conversation.
